Understand the geographical relationship between the risk areas and the race/color of the inhabitants

Maps have demonstrated the presence of spatial inequality produced by racial segregation within the Rio de Janeiro region. But what are the origins of risk faced by the inhabitants?
On this map, you can see some of these risks. It is not perfect, many things are missing, but it is a means to have understanding of the city, set priorities, and structure strategies.

What could you find on basemap?
Each colored dot represents an inhabitant. The color depends on how inhabitants answered the question "What race or color you are" from the 2010 IBGE survey (Branco, Preto, Amarelo, Pardo ou Indígena). Data are old, but we are already waiting for the next survey in 2021

What levels could you review?
The levels you can find on this map are just some of the possible risk sources. Working together we can identify other levels, correlate them and manage these risks.

The IBGE and the Centro Nacional de Monitoramento e Alerta de Desastres Naturais - CEMADEN define the risk area as susceptible to be affected by natural and/or induced phenomena or processes that cause adverse effect. People who inhabit these areas are exposed to physical integrity damage, material and property losses.

IBGE defines the "Aglomerado Subnormal" as a form of land occupation for housing purposes in urban areas and, in general, characterized by an irregular urban pattern, lack of essential public services and location in areas with restricted occupation. In these areas, generally live populations with more precarious socioeconomic, sanitation and housing conditions. Subnormal agglomerates have an extremely high density of buildings, which may facilitate the dissemination of pandemic like COVID-19.
