Tinguá in the framework of conservation areas

The community of Tinguá is located in the Baixada Fluminense, and is one of the most peripheral in the metropolitan area of Rio de Janeiro.
Surrounded by federal conservation areas and nestled among treasured Key Biodiversity Areas (KBA), it lies within one of the last fragile fragments of the Atlantic Rainforest (Mata Atlântica), one of the 200 global ecoregions and a CEPF terrestrial biodiversity hotspot.

The Integral Protection Units have as basic objective the preservation of nature, being admitted only the indirect use of its natural resources. The Sustainable Use Units have as basic objective to make nature conservation compatible with the sustainable use of part of their natural resources.
