In February 2018, the Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, launched the flagship initiative “Revive the Spirit of Mosul” as the Organization’s response for the recovery of one of Iraq’s iconic cities. Within this initiative, UNESCO’s objective is to ensure that primary schools, run by the Ministry of Education in Mosul, are safe environments where students can flourish, learn and engage with each other with care and respect – contributing to the long-term prevention of violence and building tolerance and peaceful co-existence. A first milestone was reached in January 2020 when [ARCò Architecture & Cooperation] (http://www.ar-co.org/), completed the design of the Al Ekhlas Primary School, rebuilding the historic school in the west side of the Old City of Mosul after its destruction in 2016. Students, parents and school administrators contributed their ideas for the design through a consultative process. *** Together with ARcò we designed the consultative process, preparing maps and questionnaires to be discussed with teachers, students and parents to figure out how to redesign the school. ## Annexes * 01- Map of the Al Ekhlas Primary School in the west side of the Old City of Mosul * 02- Questionnaire for students (in Arabic) * 03- Questionnaire for teachers (in Arabic) * 04- Questionnaire for parents (in Arabic)
